As part of Asian American Heritage Month 2022 (AAHM), hosted by the Asian American Center at Northeastern University, ASU, SASE, and BURSA collaborated to create a space for Asian American student artists to create and display art that showcases their Asian American identities. Following AAHM's theme for the year, Empowering Our Community, the organizers sought to support and uplift student artists, allowing them an opportunity to showcase to their unique and personal experiences as Asian Americans through a variety of different types of art.

Northeastern University Asian Student Union
Northeastern Asian Student Union (NU ASU) is an on-campus cultural group for undergraduate students at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. Through general meetings and events, they seek to promote awareness of Asian American culture and Asian heritage.
They strive to uphold the three pillars of Spirit, Culture and Unity through engagement and connection with members. They promote the Asian American culture and create meaningful and long lasting friendships through various cultural, educational and social events within the community and beyond.
Northeastern Burmese Student Association
The Burmese Student Association at NEU aims to promote awareness of Burmese culture on campus while fostering an inclusive and welcoming community.
BURSA is a home away from home for our Burmese students and we hope to ensure our culture and traditions are not lost.
Everyone, regardless of their nationalities, is welcome.
Northeastern University Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers
SASE is dedicated to the advancement of Asian heritage scientists and engineers in education and employment so that they can achieve their full career potential. In addition to professional development, SASE also encourages members to contribute to the enhancement of the communities in which they live.
SASE’s mission is to:
- Prepare Asian heritage scientists and engineers for success in the global business world.
- Celebrate diversity on campuses and in the workplace.
- Provide opportunities for members to make contributions to their local communities.
NUSASE membership is open to undergraduate students of all ethnic backgrounds.
Asian American Heritage Month
Every year, Northeastern hosts Asian American Heritage Month (AAHM) with the goals of building community, raising awareness for APIDA issues all while celebrating our history, culture, and impact in the United States.
While Asian American Heritage Month is traditionally celebrated in May, Northeastern celebrates in January to give our community an opportunity to fully participate in and enjoy the month of events.
This year, we aim to empower our community by highlighting the voices and identities that are interwoven with being Asian American in order to promote understanding and appreciation in the Asian American community. Join us in celebrating Asian American Heritage Month 2022 from January 23 – January 30, 2022!
This collection of events is just a small taste of the diversity that represents Asian America – both at Northeastern and beyond. Our hope is that together, these events will spark discussion and inquiry about where we have come from as Asian Americans, and where we are going. Stop by, take a look, learn more about who we are.
Pan Asian American Council
The Pan Asian American Council (PAAC) at Northeastern University was first created in 2005, as a response to community needs. Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) students on Northeastern’s campus sought a common space for dialogue that would unify organizations on campus. As a result of over 10 years of leadership by the Asian American Center, PAAC, and the larger community, the number of student organizations in our community grown, and the programs and impact of these student groups reaches more students than ever before.
PAAC strives to hold up the three pillars of PAAC: Self Knowledge, Community Awareness, and Intentional Allyship.
Although these three pillars lie at the core of PAAC values, the council also strives to be responsive to community needs. PAAC leadership recognizes the importance of building community by listening to and learning from each individual organization. In meeting regularly with executive boards, attending general meetings, and applying feedback, PAAC’s goal is not to impose its values on organizations, but support them in acting on what they find important.
